Speaker Bio
Ramon Chairez is a native of South San Diego and Tijuana, the son of Mexican immigrants, and a passionate advocate for environmental justice and clean water. He serves as the Director of Education and Environmental Advocacy at Un Mar de Colores, a community-rooted organization offering free youth programs focused on surf and eco therapy, mentorship, environmental education, and ocean stewardship. Together, their team creates access for historically marginalized communities, using the healing power of the ocean to foster connection, wellness, resilience, and belonging. Un Mar de Colores played a key role in advocating for the Tijuana River’s listing on American Rivers’ Most Endangered Rivers list — rising from #9 last year to #2 in 2025. The organization continues to lead efforts addressing sewage pollution, public health threats, and ecological damage through cross-border education, advocacy, and youth-centered action. Ramon believes in the power of community, nature, and binational leadership to shape a healthier, more just future for the Cali-Baja region.
