Ambassador Stan Oduma Smith is a seasoned Bahamian diplomat and attorney, currently serving as the Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to the United Nations since March 2022.
Ambassador Smith began his professional journey practicing law in Barbados from 2005 to 2015. He then served as Ambassador-at-Large and head of the Legal Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2017, contributing to United Nations teams focusing on human rights and providing general foreign policy development support . From 2018 to 2021, he was the personal assistant to Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie, facilitating diplomatic engagements and strategic support.
Appointed as the Permanent Representative to the UN in March 2022, Ambassador Smith has been instrumental in advancing The Bahamas' interests on the international stage. He has addressed critical issues such as climate change, disaster risk reduction, and the empowerment of women and girls.
