Speaker Bio
Nic Maloukis was born and raised in Austin, Texas (inside the city limits and south of the river). He completed his undergraduate degree in Resource and Environmental Studies at Texas State University in San Marcos in 2007. After two paid internships, and many volunteer hours, Nic obtained a full-time position at Government Canyon State Natural Area in 2009 as a State Park Police Officer, Site Interpreter, and Volunteer Coordinator. In 2014 Nic accepted the Superintendent position at Martin Creek Lake State Park in northeast Texas. In 2019, Nic was able to move back to San Antonio as the Superintendent of Government Canyon SNA, making a full circle from Intern to Superintendent. The “Why?” of Government Canyon is what Nic really loves about his job. At Government Canyon, it’s all about recharge, both for the aquifer and for the souls of those who traverse the trails of our natural area. Protecting our delicate source of drinking water and several endangered species, while providing space for folks to have a true wilderness experience is both an honor and a pleasure. Nic lives in San Antonio with his wife, Amanda, his aspiring soccer star son, Caleb.
