H.E. Ambassador Viliami Vaʻinga Tōnē serves as the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Tonga to the United Nations and as Tonga’s Ambassador to the United States. Appointed in April 2021, Ambassador Tōnē presented his credentials to President Joseph R. Biden, marking the beginning of his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tonga to the U.S. 
Ambassador Tōnē is a prominent advocate for climate resilience, particularly concerning Small Island Developing States (SIDS). He has emphasized the existential threats posed by sea-level rise to nations like Tonga and has called for stronger international cooperation to address these challenges.
