As the Assistant Administrator for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Ocean Service (NOS), Nicole LeBoeuf oversees strategy and operations for America’s premiere coastal and ocean agency. NOS provides science-based solutions to address economic, environmental, and social pressures on our ocean, coasts, and coastal communities — including pressures brought on by climate change. She also serves as the U.S. Representative to the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission where she advances the application of ocean and coastal observations in understanding and preparing for climate change and promoting U.S. best practices in ocean science for sustainable development and climate adaptation.
Nicole previously served as NOS’s Deputy Assistant Administrator, as NOAA’s finance lead during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and in key marine conservation policy roles within NOAA Fisheries. Her international expertise includes overseeing NOAA’s Antarctic marine resource conservation and management portfolio and NOAA’s protected species bycatch reduction efforts in multiple international tuna treaties and at the U.N. General Assembly. Nicole holds a B.S. in Marine Biology and an M.S. in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology.
